my summer…

in this summer update, it’s been quite a while since i’ve discussed my ongoing struggle against stage 4 lung cancer and mantle cell lymphoma. initially, i considered naming this update “my enchanting summer,” but then it struck me that every day holds its own magic. while i’ve shared a handful of poems this season, my primary focus has revolved around finalizing a book that i’ll soon self-publish on amazon! despite everything, back in early june, i embarked on a quest to find a safe and convenient spot for biking. in branch brook park, i stumbled upon a continuous 5-mile loop, and from that point forward, i’ve cycled that path each morning, covering a minimum of 15 miles before 7:30 am. with only a few missed days, the rewards have been remarkable, enhancing my sleep quality and occasionally causing me to forget about my “disabled” label and diagnosis. this summer has also brought about dietary improvements, thanks to my sister’s support. both of us have eliminated processed foods and incorporated a daily salad into our meals. i’d like to offer some insight to those confronting chronic illnesses: eight years ago, when i received my diagnosis, my primary care doctor delivered a grim prognosis of 6-11 months left to live. i navigated through the stages of grief and eventually entrusted my healing to faith. i reintroduced daily biking and have maintained this routine ever since. my bicycle, exercise regimen, diet, faith, family, and friends have all played pivotal roles in my overall wellness. regardless of the circumstances or diagnosis, nurturing one’s belief is paramount.

peace and blessings!
